Montgomery County is a rising hub for local breweries. You could close your eyes and throw a dart at a map and most likely land on some sort of brewery, taproom, or cidery! While you could visit any of the incredible breweries around our inn, there are a couple that are simply too good to miss. Here are a few of our favorites in the area.
Waredaca is Montgomery County’s premier farm brewery – every beer they create has ingredients grown on site at the Waredaca Farm. While the incredibly crisp beers, world class food, and cozy taproom would be enough of a reason to visit this rural brewery, the Waredaca Horse Riding Facility next door offers an entirely different atmosphere to the brewery. Venture out on an escorted trail ride around the property for a truly unique experience, or simply sit back and watch the clouds roll by next to one of their outdoor fire pits.
Possibly the best part of visiting this brewery? Waredaca is located right next door to Tusculum Farm. Ask us how to book a hayride for your group in the summer!
Something about Elder Pine Brewing makes you feel at home from the second you arrive. Their intimate tasting room is the perfect place to spend an afternoon sipping on a smooth, crisp beer. With juicy Fruited Pale Ales, Irish-Style Stouts, Norweigian-Style Farmhouse Ales, and Smoked Barleywines on the rotating list, this is the place to jump out of your comfort zone and fall in love with your new favorite brew.
Grab your entire family and head to Brookville Beer Farm, located conveniently located off Route 97. Yes, that’s right. Children are welcome to play at the farm’s outdoor fields and “Ga-Ga” pit while the adults sip on some cold, locally grown and sourced beer. Want to get an even closer look at how their beer is made? Look out for their special “hops harvesting days” where the community is invited to get their hands dirty and truly understand what it takes to be a beer farm.
With two locations now open in Silver Spring and Riverdale, Denizens is proving to be a must-visit. Just as the name “Denizens” suggests, this local brewery is committed to keeping things local. Grab your friends and attend one of their tap room yoga classes or try your hand at trivia – there’s something for everyone here. Speaking of something for everyone, if you aren’t a fan of beer, Denizens also offers a selection of wine, cider and mead (largely supplied by local businesses, of course).
Often recognized in stores for their colorful and intricate designs, True Respite is just as fun and colorful inside their local Rockville brewery. This brewery is constantly rotating their beer lists and boasts that they rarely brew the same beer twice. Grab a pint of one of their classics or venture out to try one of their experimental releases that may just start the newest groundbreaking beer trend.
In addition to pushing the limits of brewing, True Respite prides themselves in their sustainability efforts and green initiatives. They outline their steps to be Earth-friendly including implementing procedures that reduce the brewery’s energy requirements, teaming up with local government groups to ensure clean waterways (including volunteering to clean waterways themselves!), and reusing all spent grain after the mashing process – allowing local farmers to feed their livestock and cutting down on waste.
Head to one of these incredible breweries for a fun and relaxing afternoon or create your own Montgomery County Ale Trail and connect them all for a day filled with good times, craft beers, and cozy taprooms.
